PUBLIC WORKS OPERATOR

Reports to: Infrastructure Manager
Septic/Vacuum Truck Operator is responsible for sewage collection service and that sewage is transported and disposed of in an appropriate manner.
Water Truck Operator is responsible for water delivery service within the Tsuut’ina Nation in order to ensure that residents have a safe, clean supply of water at all times.
Residential Garbage Truck Operator is responsible for waste and recycling collection services within Tsuut’ina Nation in order to ensure that the materials are transported and disposed of in an appropriate manner to designated transfer station or landfill.
The operator will conducted daily truck safety and maintenance inspections, ensures safe operation of a truck, while driving, loading and unloading at various locations throughout the service area. This job is very physical and works outside in all weather conditions.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
a. Advised the Infrastructure Manager any requirements for maintenance or repair
b. Clean truck as schedule and/or required
c. Collect sewage from building, businesses and other facilities as per schedule to ensure sewage is removed, transported and disposed of according to set policies and procedures
d. Dispose of sewage according to set policies and procedures
e. Ensure truck and equipment are safety and securely stored
f. Including receiving complaints about schedules and levels and quality of services
g. Keep equipment clean as per established standards
h. Maintain daily records of pick-ups
i. Must also deal with residents and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner
j. Must make note of and report on any such complaints and respond in a courteous and respectful manner
k. Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures
l. Participate in routine maintenance
m. Perform daily safety and maintenance checks
n. Perform other related duties
o. Practice workplace safety
Capable to work shift rotation of 4 on 4 off, 10 hours per day
q. Must be able to be on call 24Hours 7 Days a week for emergency calls after normal working hours.
QUALIFICATION & SKILLS:
a. The Truck is required to have as a minimum, a clean Class 3 driver’s license with air certification
b. Will require lifting, pulling and managing heavy equipment and objects
c. Able to work in all weather, and must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold
d. Handling potentially dangerous materials must ensure that all activities are completed in a safe and efficient way to eliminate the possibility of contamination and infection of themselves or others
e. The Driver is constantly exposed to unpleasant sight and smells
f. He/she may at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substance and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin irritation and infection
g. The truck driver must work independently and is expected to maintain a schedule
A valid Alberta driver’s license and clean abstract and reliable transportation is required
