**Senior Network Administrator**


Department:    Information Technology (IT) Department
Reports to:      Information Technology (IT) Director


The Sr. Network Administrator under general supervision, designs, configures, builds, and maintains computer networks, operating systems, and related hardware and software; analyzes current network architectures in order to design and implement improvements for increased functionality and reliability; proactively providing engineering solutions for the telecommunication or voice response unit needs; and may provide supervision to journey and entry level staff of the Tsuut’ina nation IT department.



·       Maintains the integrity of networks, security, phones, TDM and VPNs upon which the Tsuut’ina Nation relies for uninterrupted business and management operation.

·       Designs, configures, builds, and maintains computer networks. Analyzes network architecture, and reconfigures networks and relocates data for optimal performance.

·       Runs performance queries, and designs and implements testing routines to identify and resolve (debug) conflicts and potential operating malfunctions.

·       Troubleshoots, and resolves malfunctions with networked system, operating platform interfaces, configurations, and related equipment such as connections, switches, routers, firewalls, PBX.

·       Designs and builds Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs)

·       Documents procedures, and provides user information and training materials.

·       Schedules and monitors system maintenance.

·       Confers with end-users to identify user needs, and with consultants and vendors regarding systems maintenance and upgrades.

·       Estimates time and resources needed for projects, develops project schedules, and may prepare service request forms.

·       Administers systems security, and assigns appropriate access privileges to end-users

Detect, analyze, and defend against network penetration: Execute Intrusion Detection/Prevention System
Install Firewalls: application gateways and Access Control List based packet filters
Configure and handle crypto-capable routers and Virtual Private Networks
Protect systems – servers and services from external and internal threat by
a)     Analyzing and evaluating systems security vulnerabilities

b)     Updating security patches for network and firewalls

c)     Deploying best security measures

·       Back up, secure and protect data

·       Dimensioning, sizing configuration, installation of security hardware for services like web, mail, domain name system (DNS/DNSSEC) chat, FTP, proxies, storage, clustering, billing, in-house applications, etc.

·       Provide engineering designs for all telecommunications facilities in either data centers, call centers, or office locations;

·       Develop and maintain an accurate record of telecom voice and data services using internal systems and vendor portals.

·       Review and identify voice and data lines that are no longer in use, can be eliminated, optimized or replaced.

·       Performs related duties as required.

·       Physical Network Security (camera, motion, environment, access)

·       Time System accounting interaction

·       RSA security

·       Maintain IPv4 and IPv6 Network, including dealing with ARIN



·       Strong verbal and written English language

·       Proven reliability and consistency

·       Strong understanding or IPv4 and IPv6

·       Solid understanding of TDM, IP voice and data networking as well as traditional voice transport protocols including POTS, PRI, Centrex, DID, VoIP, SIP, MLPS, VPN.

·       Detail oriented, customer focused professional is essential

·       Must be willing to work outside regular business hours as required by implementation of special projects, and emergencies; travel between various departments/companies

·       Flexibility, adaptability and the ability to learn quickly in various technical and creative environments, while delivering quality work by required deadlines, are key requirements in this position

·       Switching (Capacity Planning, VTP, BPDU, ISL, MPLS, VLAN’s)

·       Routing (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP)

·       WAN Technology (MPLS, VPLS, VPN, DWDM, )

·       Voice Technologies: (POTS, PRI, VoIP, SIP Trunking, CUE, CUCM, FreeSwitch)

·       Familiarity with: VPNs, VoIP, VLAN, Large Scale Wireless Deployments

·       Cisco ASA Security: 55xx, VPN, IPSEC,

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:



·       Minimum Grade 12 Diploma

·       Equivalent to either a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field

·       Certification as a Min. CCNP R&S,, Preferable CCIE R&S

·       Cisco VoIP Certification a plus

·       Cisco Security Certification a plus



·       7+ years recent experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting malfunctions with computer hardware and software, one (1) year of which must include performing a variety of tasks in support of administering a networked system.

·       Minimum of 5 years work experience in voice and data networking and telecom service management
